How to nominate

Call for nominations for Alumnus of the Year 2016

Do you know any friends, relatives, employees, managers or colleagues who studied at NTU (or any of its predecessor institutions*) who deserve recognition for their achievements?

Have they made an outstanding, noteworthy achievement in sport, the arts, science, academic or public life? Do you know any NTU alumni who have made a major contribution to the lives of others, or who have overcome significant personal hardship? For example, those who have shown:

  • professional success demonstrated by notable career achievements
  • extraordinary community involvement
  • meritorious heroism
  • significant volunteerism or philanthropy

Nominations should include the following information: 

  • Name of alumnus / alumna
  • Subject of study (if known)
  • Year of graduation (if known)
  • A description, in no more than 200 words, of the contributions or achievements which makes them deserving of this award
  • Your name
  • Your contact details
  • Details of your relationship with the nominee
  • Additional information such as press cuttings, a CV, or web links can be included in support of your nomination.

The nominee must have studied at Nottingham Trent University or one of its predecessor institutions* and must have already graduated and be on the Alumni Association's database.

To make a nomination, in confidence, please send details by email or by post to Clare Oswin, Alumni Office, Nottingham Trent University, FREEPOST NG1826, Burton Street, Nottingham, NG1 4BR.

The recipient of the 2016 award will be selected,from those who have been nominated,by Nottingham Trent University's Awards and Titles Committee. The successful alumnus / alumna (and their nominator) will be notified by the Development and Alumni Relations Office by 31 May 2016.


Selection Criteria and General Guidelines

1.  The award will be made to the graduate who is considered to best represent outstanding achievement in, sport, the arts, science, academic or public life, or who is deemed to have made a major contribution to the lives of others or who has overcome significant personal hardship. For example, those who have shown:

  • Professional success demonstrated by notable career achievements
  • Extraordinary community involvement
  • Meritorious heroism
  • Significant volunteerism or philanthropy.

2.  Nominations must be made in writing to Clare Oswin, Alumni Office, Nottingham Trent University, Burton Street, Nottingham, NG1 4BU and will also be accepted by email to Clare Oswin. The section detailing the nominee’s contributions or achievements should not exceed 200 words in length.

3.  Nominations can be made by NTU alumni, students or staff as well as family, friends, employees, employers or colleagues of NTU alumni.

4.  Nominees must have already graduated from the University (or one of its predecessor institutions*) and appear on the Alumni Association’s database.

5.  The award will not be made on the basis of position, job title or the number of nominations received for any individual.

6.  A specially selected group of NTU staff and alumni will make the final decision on who should receive the award and will choose a recipient from those who have been nominated.

7.  The chosen alumnus / alumna (and their nominator) will be notified in writing of their success before 31 May 2016.

8.  The 2016 Alumnus / Alumna of the Year Award will be presented at an NTU graduation ceremony in November 2016.


*NTU's predecessor institutions include: Nottingham and District Technical College, Nottingham Regional College of Technology, Nottingham College of Art and Design, Nottingham College of Education, Brackenhurst College, Trent Polytechnic and Nottingham Polytechnic.
