Anthony Walker CBE – An international influence in the motor manufacturing industry 

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration (HonDBA) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development and advancement of industry in this region and the UK.

When Toyota was setting up its operation at Burnaston, Derbyshire, in 1990, Tony Walker was among the first employees. He already had 13 years’ experience in the motor industry following his BSc in Psychology at Newcastle-upon-Tyne University. As Toyota (UK)’s General Manager, Human Resources, he had a central role in establishing the factory as a vibrant element in the East Midlands economy, and in the wider industrial context. He later moved to Toyota Motor Europe’s HQ in Brussels, where he was Vice-President of Human Resources and held other senior positions.

He returned to Burnaston in 2010 as Deputy Managing Director, and has direct responsibility for HR, Accounting & Finance, Corporate Planning, External Affairs and Production Control. He is recognised for achieving agreements that have protected jobs and skills during the economic downturn.

Tony received a CBE for services to the Motor Industry in the 2018 New Year Honours.
