Sir Peter Blake CBE

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Art in recognition of his outstanding contribution to art and design, in Britain and around the world.

Sir Peter Blake, who works with a member of NTU staff on publishing, has been inspired by many things in nature or man-made, from bird's nests to props from old movies. Celebrated with prizes and honours in Britain and around the world, his work has featured since 1954 in diverse group and solo exhibitions. In 1961, after 15 years studying and teaching art, Peter Blake won a prize in a Liverpool exhibition, which led to his first solo show. He quickly gained broad public acclaim. His wide-ranging and influential output includes memorable album covers like Band Aid's Do they know it's Christmas? and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band for The Beatles. He has been a Royal Academician, received a CBE and was knighted for services to art in 2002.
