Jeremy Bowen – A broadcaster with exceptional flair for covering the complexities of international news.

Honorary Degree of Doctor of Social Science (HonDSocSci) in recognition of his significant contribution to understanding the nature and complexities of contemporary affairs, particularly in the Middle East, and raising awareness by providing an informed account of politics in that part of the world.

A history graduate of University College, London, Jeremy Bowen joined the BBC in 1984 as a news trainee. He has since reported from around the world, showing a supreme command of broadcasting in diverse locations, from the Breakfast studio sofa to the war-torn streets of Kosovo, Iraq, Libya and beyond.

He is an authoritative presence in the coverage of conflict and international affairs and he has a compassionate touch, highlighting the suffering of communities caught in the cross-fire of hostilities. His work has a significant place in the understanding of complex contemporary politics and events, particularly in the Middle East. Jeremy has won several national and international awards, including the Charles Wheeler Award for an Outstanding Contribution to Broadcast Journalism in 2010.
