Derek Brewer - Business leader in top-level sport and all-round community development

Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University (Hon DUniv) in recognition of his pivotal role in cricket and his wider contribution to sport, culture and the local economy in this city, county and region.

In April 2012 Derek Brewer took over as chief executive of the world's premier cricketing body, the MCC, following a first-class innings lasting nearly seven years in a similar role for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. He overhauled the club and its facilities and extended its engagement with the wider community, including initiatives with ex-offenders, disaffected young people and apprenticeship schemes.

A former regional director in banking, he has been a major player in cultural and economic development in the East Midlands. His input includes the chairmanship of groups concerned with tourism, sport and transport.

He was Nottingham City Business Club's Business Leader of the Year 2011. He is also a supporter of NTU in its work with regional partnerships.
