Looking Again, Again
An Inaugural Lecture and Book Launch by Associate Professor Danica Maier, School of Art & Design

Tue, 29 Jan, 2019 17:30 - 20:00

Event details

In ways that mirror values in Maier’s artwork, this talk will also play with quiet moments of detail that puncture propriety. We will spend time encountering hidden moments, considering the overlooked in pattern and will explore particular aspects of the repeat’s rich potential to subvert. Macro and micro perspectives when looking, thinking and making will be unpicked. Repetition, difference, sameness and variation are arrived at, for example, through glitch-disrupted rhythm.

Maier embeds and inhabits these values and interests through the lecture as a form, which places subtly different expectations upon the audiences as active listeners.

Book Launch

Maier's lecture will be a followed by a book launch of her latest publication Bummock: The Lace Archive. This publication is the result of recent residency within the Lace Archive held at Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and exhibition at Backlit Gallery, Nottingham (2018), touring to The Ruskin Gallery, Cambridge with private view on the 31 January, 2019 and The Constance Howard Gallery, Goldsmiths College, London (November – December 2019).

Visit her blog for more details about the research project.
