Alumni Fellows are welcomed back to Nottingham Law School
4 April 2017
After successfully launching the Alumni Fellowship Programme in January, Nottingham Law School now has 51 Alumni Fellows who are currently giving up their time to support NLS students through a variety of activities such as mentoring, offering work shadowing, and mock interviews. The Welcome Event on Wednesday 15 March was a fantastic opportunity to invite them back and thank them for the time that they have volunteered to the programme so far.
The event started with a warm welcome, followed by a panel discussion about the role of an Alumni Fellow. The panel consisted of two current Fellows. The first was His Honour Judge John Samuels QC, who spoke about his role as a mentor and the numerous ways in which he has kindly supported NLS through guest lectures, presentations and holding student drop in sessions. Our second panel member was Trainee Solicitor, Hilly Redgrave, who gave great insight into her role as a student mentor, various presentations she has given, articles she has written and the recruitment fair support that she undertook.
Also present on the panel was Senior Supervising Solicitor of NLS’s Legal Advice Centre, Faye Deverell, who discussed how Fellows can support the work of the Centre.
Following the panel discussion there was a fantastic atmosphere and the event was opened up, allowing a wealth of current NLS students to practise their networking skills and meet with alumni.
The event was incredibly well received by the Alumni Fellows. Hilly Redgrave (LPC 2015) said: "It was a wonderful event, very well organised and attended! As usual the students were very enthusiastic – it must fill you with pride."
Rick Thomas (LPC 2014) said: "From my perspective the event was a great success and I look forward to supporting the programme moving forward".
