NTU Alumni Taiwan Ambassador:
Mathieu Bordier (BA Hons Economics 1997)
NTU is not just a place to study but also a place to learn and meet friends from all over the world. Prospective students only have brochures to help them make their choice and prepare for life in the UK, so I enjoy meeting them to share my experience and help them understand what great things to expect from NTU. I would like them to know that when they return to Taiwan there is a strong network of alumni who keep in touch and help each other. Who else but other NTU alumni can understand and share your NTU experience?
Visit the Taiwan group page for details of how to join Mathieu and other members of the NTU Alumni Taiwan group.
Position: WW product marketing manager, IBM
Field of work: IT marketing
Company’s main business: IT services, solution and hardware
What does your current role involve? Design new generations of server, decide features, target markets.
How has your career developed since leaving Nottingham Trent? Leaving NTU, I managed to move to the US to work and enter graduate school. I moved back to France as a sales manager and have now been working in Taiwan for over five years, presently as a marketing manager in IBM, handling projects valued at over two billion US dollars.
How has your experience at Nottingham Trent - the learning environment, academic and social life - shaped or helped you in your career? NTU was the first time I really lived in an international setting, surrounded by more nationalities in fellow students than I could count. It helped me learn about other ways of thinking and viewing problems that I now use daily in my work and life in Taiwan, working with colleagues all over the world.
How friendly and supportive an environment did you find Nottingham Trent? Having the chance to engage in various clubs and societies, I was made aware of more knowledge than simply through my courses. Having NTU staff and teachers doing all they could to support me on all aspects of student life made my studying more efficient, engaging and fun.
What has been the highlight of your career or personal achievements to date? Having been assigned to create the next generation of the highest ever selling server for IBM.
What are your plans for the future? Complete the next generation of server and either transfer to the US office or get into teaching to share some of my experience.
