Alumni in your country

Gianluca NegroNTU Alumni Italy Ambassador:
Gianluca Negro (MSc Management 2014)

NTU has given me the tools and skills to face the real world. I believe in the power of networking and in the enrichment that meeting new people and old friends can give you. I am grateful to NTU and I would like to help them in attracting more students, especially from my country. I think this group may be the right medium to share experiences and to help others to enjoy our same achievements. Teniamoci in contatto, non si sa mai, potremmo diventare buoni amici o fare affari insieme!

Email alumni@ntu.ac.uk for details of how to join Gianluca and other members of the NTU Alumni Italy group.

About Gianluca

Position: Graduate Project Manager, Tesco PLC

Your company's main business: Retail

What does your current role involve? Identifying opportunities and managing projects for performance improvement in our distribution processes, with the aim of supporting the future growth of the company.

How has your experience at Nottingham Trent shaped or helped you in your career? It helped me to be more inquisitive and more critical, which are skills really demanded by employers, and which are really helpful in analysing processes and operations. It also assisted me in developing my presentation and communication skills. It opened my mind to new ideas, and allowed me to know individuals from all over the world, nurturing a strong desire to network.

How friendly and supportive an environment did you find Nottingham Trent? Nottingham Trent has been really supportive. I was an international student, but I soon felt at home thanks to the continuous support of all my lecturers and classmates.

What has been the highlight of your career or personal achievements to date? Joining Tesco, which is a truly respectable and huge company. When you are outside, you never realise how large it can be, and I feel really proud of being part of it. In terms of academic achievements, when I graduated from NTU I was the one with the highest mark ever on a Management course.

What are your plans for the future?  I plan to stay in the UK at least for the next two years to complete the graduate programme I am on. I am thinking of going international through Tesco, which has operations in another 11 countries across Europe and Asia.
