Happy Christmas

17 January 2013

Christmas parcels

It's true what they say - the older you get, the faster the year seems to go - and here we are at the end of another year, Christmas just a few days away.

There's always plenty of planning and anticipation around this time of year especially when there are young children about, but of course it proves to be very rewarding.

It also, for me, serves as a reminder of the passage of time and helps me make the most of every opportunity, with career, with friends and with families.

We all have a lot to be thankful for even in these difficult times. A great education should set you up for life and as alumni, we know we have that. We also have the opportunity to help current undergraduates by adding to the Alumni Fund - it is Christmas after all...., but also by guiding and mentoring where possible.

Even in the most basic terms, we need to be thankful for what we have, especially when we look at the latest school massacre in the United States. The old adage that "there's always someone worse off" is certainly true.

I have to confess that I've never been one for a big, brash Christmas - and it's not that I'm a Scrooge - but I am, in my own way, a bit of a thinker and a ponderer, even when I wasn't quite so old!

With that in mind, may I wish you all a happy and more importantly, a peaceful Christmas, filled with the quiet joy of having loved ones near and the understanding that every new year opens up new opportunities.

Here's to a successful 2013 and, I hope, the chance to meet or email many more of you in the year ahead as our alumni family continues to grow and thrive.

All best wishes,

Stephen
