Recruiting our students has a number of benefits, including:

  • a cost-effective way to access talent
  • an opportunity to trial potential future employees
  • adding ideas, new skills and the latest knowledge into your business
  • access to specialist expertise and resources
  • a great way to raise your profile as a prospective graduate employer.

Assessed Work-Like Experience

NTU has a proud history of delivering industry-focused courses that prepare students for life beyond lectures. Since September 2022, this drive for excellence has been taken to the next level, with every new cohort of students undertaking Assessed Work-Like Experience (AWLE) as an integral part of their undergraduate course.

AWLE presents a range of routes for external stakeholders to increase their brand exposure across NTU and build a pipeline to your organisation’s future talent. This could be course-based projects or challenges, industry insights or guest lectures. The majority of our courses also offer short and medium placement opportunities, all the way through to traditional year-long sandwich placements.

Your recruitment options

Short-term placements

Short-term placements are a flexible way to get student talent into your business. They represent a great opportunity to trial future employees and add extra resource for a specific project, whilst equipping students with work-based skills and experience in a professional environment.

Our 10-12 week placement options offer organisations the chance to work with students from the Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Business School, and the School of Arts and Humanities.

In the School of Social Sciences, a 60-hour placement route is available to those studying Psychology. There are also short-term options to access talent from disciplines including Health and Social Care, Politics and International Relations.

Longer-term placements

Longer-term placements, of up to 12 months, are an effective way to introduce new ideas to your workforce, whilst giving students practical industry experience. We have undergraduate and postgraduate students looking to undertake paid year in industry (sandwich) placements in their second or third year of study, starting between June and September. Some courses also offer January and May start dates.

Virtual placements

We understand that the working landscape has shifted, and many employers are now able to offer virtual placement opportunities. A virtual placement offers flexibility to both the student and employer, and can be completed remotely from home, by communicating through online platforms. This enables you to reach a larger pool of talent, harness digital skills and access students from various geographical locations.
